Living room TV with Roku setup

Roku is one of the most popular streaming platforms in the US. While adding "Channels" (Roku's word for apps) is straightforward, linking those apps to your paid accounts can sometimes result in activation loops.

Step 1: Add the Channel to Your Roku

  1. Press the Home button on your Roku remote.
  2. Scroll down and select Streaming Channels to open the Channel Store.
  3. Select Search Channels and type the name of the app (e.g., Netflix, Hulu).
  4. Select the app and choose Add Channel.

Step 2: Activating via Web Browser

Many major apps use an "activation code" system instead of forcing you to type your password with the remote.

  1. Open the newly installed app on your Roku.
  2. Select "Sign In". The screen will display a web address (like hbomax.com/tvsignin) and a 6-digit code.
  3. Leave the TV screen on. Grab your smartphone or computer.
  4. Open a web browser and type the exact web address shown on the TV.
  5. Log in to your account on your phone/computer, then enter the 6-digit code.
  6. Your Roku screen will automatically refresh and log you in.
